There are some players that go
above and beyond the call and become heroes to the fans of their team. These
players may excel because of their talent, their sense of dedication, their
positive attitude, or their work ethic. A franchise and its fans are lucky to
get a player that sets himself apart from the run of the mill athlete and they
should be respected and honored as such. It is a tradition in sports to retire
the jersey number of a player that has meant a great deal to a franchise or
city. This can be either because of their leadership and commitment, their
statistical dominance or on field performance or any other reason too.
The New York Giants came into
the NFL in 1925 and in that time have won multiple championships and a lot of
big games. Part of the reason they have been able to do so is because of the
great players they have had on the team. Some of these great players have been
so loved by the team and its fans that they have gone on to have their jersey number
retired by the Giants.
The current New York Jets
which were originally named the New York Titans began in 1960 and played their
games in New York. There were several changes in ownership and, at the present
time they are owned by Robert Wood Johnson IV. They are members of the AFC in
the NFC and their regular training facility is located in New Jersey. Their
fans, both in both areas enjoy wearing New York Jets jerseys.
